Four words, graded one at a time

The open source coding agent.

Three of these four words describe a category that already has a dozen entries. The first word is the one making a claim, and it is the only one a reader can dispute without installing anything.

$npm i -g opencode

word 01
The A definite article on a crowded shelf. It claims the category rather than a place in it.
word 02
open source A licence fact. Checkable on the repo page in one click, and the easiest of the four to settle.
word 03
coding Names the domain. Narrower than general purpose, which is the useful kind of narrow.
word 04
agent Names the shape. Something that acts in a loop rather than answering one question at a time.

Words two through four are settled by the licence file and the category. Word one is the whole positioning, and nothing in the description defends it: no comparison, no differentiator, no reason this is the one.

the article is the claim

The definite article is a fight

Three other repos on today's board describe themselves as agent harnesses or coding agents. Claiming the noun outright puts this one in an argument with all of them.

Short copy is a choice

Four words on a board where the average row runs twenty reads as confidence. It also means the repo page has to do all the persuading.

What is not on this page

No language support, no model, no editor integration, no comparison. The trending description is four words and names none of it.

Concept mock, not affiliated with the project. The complete GitHub Trending description on 6 September 2026 is "The open source coding agent." The four cells grade those four words in order and add no feature, integration, or measurement, because that sentence publishes none.
